Allen D. Beck, MD, was appointed interim chair and director of Emory Eye Center on March 14, 2016. He is William and Clara Redmond Professor of Ophthalmology and former director, Section of Glaucoma, Emory Eye Center. His clinical focus is on diagnosis and management of pediatric and adult glaucoma, including surgical treatment of cataract. His research interests include diagnosis and management of pediatric glaucoma, clinical studies of adult glaucoma therapies, pediatric cataract, and glaucoma compliance.

National Recognition

Dr. Beck was inducted in to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society in 1989. He won the “Clinical Teaching Award,” presented by Emory Eye Center residents in 1999, and again in 2002.  That same year, he was presented the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Achievement Award. He is listed among the “Top Doctors” in Atlanta magazine’s special issue (2009-2016). He is a member of AAO, The American Medical Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology and the Emory Eye Alumni Association.

He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Childhood Glaucoma Research Network and has served on the Steering Committee for Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study (AGIS), the American Glaucoma Society Patient Care Committee and Practice Guidelines Subcommittee and on the editorial board of JAAPOS (Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus).
