G. Baker Hubbard III, MD specializes in vitreoretinal surgery, and his practice includes both adult and pediatric vitreoretinal disorders. Dr. Hubbard’s primary research interest is in characterizing the clinical manifestations of pediatric retinal disorders and their treatment outcomes. Recent peer-reviewed publications have covered retinopathy of prematurity, retinoblastoma, pediatric vitreous hemorrhage, and endophthalmitis.

Dr. Hubbard has also been the institutional principal investigator for national clinical trials on emerging therapies for adult retinal disorders such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. He has been closely involved with residency and fellowship training and he is currently director of fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Emory University.

Dr. Hubbard’s clinical interests focus on pediatric retinal disease, including retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and retinoblastoma (RB).

He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology, the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association.

National Recognition

Dr. Hubbard is an active member of the ophthalmology community and has served on committees for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology. He is a reviewer for Ophthalmology, Journal of Retina and Vitreous Diseases, Cornea, and Journal of Refractive Surgery. He serves as the Pediatric Retina Section co-editor for the Retina Times and is a manuscript reviewer for several publications. He has served as president of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology and currently serves on the board of councilors. He received the Senior Honor Award from the American Society of Retina Specialists for his work in pediatric retina disorders.
