Associate Professor of Ophthalmology
Section of Pediatric Ophthalmology and
Strabismus
Amy Hutchinson's clinical practice includes all areas of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Her special interests are in retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric cataract and refractive surgery, and surgical management of complex adult strabismus secondary to thyroid-related eye disease.
The Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus section is involved in several research projects, including the design of a multi-center clinical trial to evaluate the role of refractive surgery in children and the ongoing Infant Aphakia Treatment (IATS) trial, an NEI-sponsored trial that compares the use of contact lenses versus intraocular lenses to optically focus infants with unilateral congenital cataracts following cataract surgery.
Dr. Hutchinson is also a participant in the NEI-funded Amblyopia Treatment Studies that apply evidence-based medicine to the treatment of amblyopia.
