Amy Hutchinson, MD, joined the Emory Eye Center in 2002. Dr. Hutchinson’s clinical practice includes general pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Her special interests are in retinopathy of prematurity screening and treatment, pediatric vision screening, electronic health records and cerebral visual impairment.
Dr. Hutchinson co-developed and validated a novel eye chart for children, the Handy Eye ChartTM for use in non-verbal or non-English speaking individuals. She recently introduced a specialty clinic for children with cerebral visual impairment. Dr. Hutchinson participates in a number of NEI-funded pediatric ophthalmology studies that apply evidence-based medicine to the treatment of amblyopia and other pediatric eye diseases.
Dr. Hutchinson is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the Pediatric Cortical Visual Impairment Society and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
She received the honor award and the senior honor award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and from the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She currently serves as vice-chair of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus’s vision screening committee and is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
Dr. Hutchinson recently served on AAO’s Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee where she was first author on two policy statements and co-author on five additional policy statements. She is currently a member of the AAO Preferred Practice Pattern committee.
