Assistant Professor, Neuro-Ophthalmology
Kannan Narayana, MD, MBBS, joined the Emory Eye Center on July 1, 2015, as an assistant professor in the Neuro-Ophthalmology service. Dr. Narayana brings with him a rare combination of experience in both neurology and ophthalmology. He completed an ophthalmology residency in India followed by a fellowship in uveitis and ocular inflammation at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Narayana completed a neurology residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson in New Jersey, where he served as chief resident. He recently completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Narayana will have a primary practice at Emory Hospital Midtown, establishing an expansion of Emory Eye Center’s strong neuro-ophthalmology program to the Midtown area. His clinical emphasis will cover an array of neuro-ophthalmic disorders including afferent /efferent pathway disorders, diplopia and involuntary eye movements.
As an academician, Dr. Narayana is keenly interested in teaching. He has co-authored 15 peer-reviewed articles and four book chapters. He has research interests in auto-immune diseases of the eye and the nervous system, developing newer technologies that characterize afferent and efferent dysfunction in inflammatory, neurodegenerative disorders, and other disorders of unknown etiology (e.g: dizziness, atypical pain syndromes).
