Priyanka Sood, MD

Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology
Chief of Ophthalmology Service, Emory University Hospital Midtown
Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Diseases
Specialist, Comprehensive

Priyanka Sood, MD, joined the Emory Eye Center team in February 2018. She is a cornea, cataract, and refractive specialist in the comprehensive section, and also serves as ophthalmology service chief for Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Dr. Sood was part of the prestigious 7-year combined Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME) at Northwestern University. During her time there, she received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and her medical doctorate. She completed her transitional year and residency here at Emory where she acquired strong clinical and surgical training. She furthered her education with fellowship training at Weill Cornell Medical College to become a specialist in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery.

Through her interest in global health, Dr. Sood has had the opportunity to travel with medical teams to Ghana, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Mexico, and other areas. Since specializing in ophthalmology and, more specifically the cornea and anterior segment, she has participated in international trips to evaluate cornea patients and perform corneal transplants.

She is thrilled to be back at Emory where both of her siblings also completed training in ophthalmology through the Emory Eye Center. Her interests lie in the anterior segment of the eye including corneal transplants, LASIK/PRK, advanced cataract surgery (laser and specialty lenses) and anterior segment reconstruction.

Dr. Sood believes in the patient-physician team and actively works on helping her patients to understand their ocular health and empower them to make decisions based on their own needs.  While medical education and research are part of her focus here at Emory, her primary focus is to provide thoughtful and compassionate individualized care.

National Recognition

Dr. Sood holds memberships in the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Cornea Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She is regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings and is actively involved in national societies.
