My research focuses on developing treatments and therapies for retinal disease. My main interest is development of a subretinal microphotodiode array designed to restore vision to patients with retinitis pigmentosa. One of the main aims is to determine neuroprotective effects from subretinal electrical stimulation. In addition, the neuroprotective effect of a naturally-occurring bile acid with anti-apoptotic properties is being tested for retinal degeneration. Finally, we are developing a mouse model to investigate the retinal mechanisms that control refractive development and lead to myopia.
