Emory Eye Center to Host Education Program for Pediatric Ophthalmologists

Pediatric ophthalmologists and other ophthalmic subspecialists will come together Sept. 16-17, 2016, for an opportunity to learn more about pediatric ophthalmology and to share cases from their own practices. The gathering, known as the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Meeting of the Southeast (POSMS), will be sponsored by the Emory Eye Center and Emory University School of Medicine's Ophthalmology Department.

The keynote speaker will be David Wallace, MD, a professor of ophthalmology and pediatrics at Duke Eye Center. Dr. Wallace's primary research interests include retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), amblyopia and clinical trials that study pediatric eye diseases. He has chaired or co-chaired five amblyopia clinical trials that have contributed to an evidence-based approach to treating amblyopia (also known as strabismus, or "lazy eye" in layman's terms).

POSMS will begin with dinner and networking on Friday evening, Sept. 16. Saturday's conference will open with a keynote lecture from Dr. Wallace on "Treatment of severe ROP: The times they are a'changin'."

Attendees are encouraged to bring information about their own interesting cases, failures and dilemmas to share during case presentation times.

All sessions will be held at Emory Conference Center Hotel (1615 Clifton Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329). For more information or to register, call Emory's Office of Continuing Medical Education at 404-727-1626.
